Over the last few days I have been crocheting some Remembrance day poppies to help bring in some extra charity donations.
If you would like to make your own, please feel free to use this pattern and make a donation to your local Poppy appeal.
I’m using some red double-knit yarn and a 4.5mm crochet hook. If you need a quick stitch reminder click here.
1. Make a slip knot, then chain 5 stitches.
2. Into the chain furthest from your hook, make 9 UK treble (US double) crochet stitches.
Slip stitch into the top of your first chain (where the pencil is pointing) to join the round. You should have 10 posts (9 UK treble / US double stitches and 1 from your first chain). For the next round you will be working into the spaces between these posts.
3. Chain 3, work 1 UK double (US single) stitch into the space beneath this stitch.
4. Work 2 UK treble (US double) stitches into each of the next 4 spaces.
5. Work 2 UK double (US single) stitches into the 6th space . You should have worked your stitches into a total of 6 spaces (and have 4 free). Round 2 is finished.
6. For Round 3, chain 1 and turn your work. Next, work 2 UK double (US single) stitches into each stitch of your previous round.
7. Take your yarn back to the centre of your flower, by slip stitching into the edge of your petal. There’s no need to turn your work.
8. It’s time for the second petal. As with your first petal, chain 3 stitches and work 1 UK double (US single) stitch – into the same space of your first petal (Step 3 position). You should now have 4 stitches coming out of this space – two from your first petal and 2 from your second.
9. Work 2 UK treble (US double) into the next 4 spaces (as petal 1).
10. Into the next space (where your first petal starts), work 2 UK double (US single) stitches. In the gap where your two petals meet you should again have 4 stitches.Chain 1, turn your work.
11. Work 2 UK double (US single) stitches into each stitch of the top edge of your petal. When you reach the end, slip stitch back down the side of your petal to the centre. Fasten off your work and sew in ends.
12. Hand sew a black button to the front of your poppy and its ready to wear!

I live in Albany Western Australia which is to be the forefront of the Commemoration this year of ANZAC’ centenary. Everyone has been asked to make poppies but I could not find a pattern. Thank you.

I used this pattern to make a dozen flowers. I help out in a local cat charity shop who kindly let me sell the flowers at £1 each , I put the £12 into our post office poppy appeal collection box so a big thank you to you for sharing your easy to make poppy pattern.
